哀れ Aware – An Exhibition at Space2 Gallery in Watford Opens in November

A4-Space2-lla-Carty-&-HidekAware (哀れ) is a two person show with work by British born Japanese artist and Digswell Arts fellow Hideki Arichi and Digswell Arts Alumni Ella Carty. The Exhibition explores the Japanese concept of ‘Aware’ (pronounced A-wah-ay). This is a term from the Heian Period and is an expression of measured surprise (similar to “ah” or “oh”). It translates roughly as “pathos”, “poignancy”, “deep feeling” or “sensitivity”. It is usually associated with the term Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally meaning “the pathos of things”, also translated as “an empathy toward things” or “a sensitivity to ephemera”. Each artist responds to the theme from an individual perspective unravelling a pictorial language that explores notions of beauty in impermanence.

The Exhibition opens at Space 2 in Watford Museum and will run from 8th November – 20th December 2014. The Private View will be held on Saturday November 8th 1pm – 3pm and will incorporate an introduction to the exhibition by the artists. Entry is free but booking is essential.

Visiting information and details of how to get there can be found at http://www.watfordmuseum.org.uk/info.html
