Digswell Arts Fellow Allistair Covell has recently been interviewed twice by Arts Thread, the world’s leading network for new creatives that bridges the gap between education and industry.

In October 2015 Allistair was invited by Arts Thread to contribute to their Practical Guides section on their website and was interviewed by their online editor Josh Walker. The interview, titled ‘Promoting yourself online with zero budget’ touches on Allistair’s view of social media and how he cleverly uses it to reach his global audience online without the need to spend much money in the process.

Allistair talks about the various social media platforms that artists and designers can use and explains what works best for him, like Instagram, which he uses as an online gallery and Twitter which is great for sharing news. Allistair also shares the techniques that he finds useful to get his work noticed online but highlights that as important as it is to have an online presence it is still important to try and connect with contacts offline; interacting with people face to face is still key. Back in September, while showing his work at the Designersblock show during the London Design Festival 2015, Allistair was interviewed by Arts Thread and featured alongside other exhibitors in their video review of the event. During his interview Allistair briefly explained the concept behind creating the #CanvasToCarpet rug collection and how every brush stroke and paint splash in his paintings and sketches have been interpreted and translated into woven knots to create the striking rug designs.

Designersblock has been producing major annual international design shows since 1998. Designing and delivering unique exhibitions, events and experiences in the UK and internationally, Designersblock works with a wide network of independent designers, creative partners, commercial clients and brands to bring the most innovative ideas to the largest possible audience.
