Digswell Artist Allistair Covell’s digitally printed wool textile artwork ‘Digital Stitch’ will be making it’s final stop on the Cambrian Mountains Wool International Design Challenge 2015 UK tour with an appearance at Made by Hand Wales: The Contemporary Craft Fair in Cardiff from the 30th October – 1st November 2015.

‘Digital Stitch’ is a wool textile artwork installation that was specially created for the Challenge at the beginning of the year and is part of an ongoing collaboration between Allistair and the internationally renowned textile print company Think Positive. Featuring a photograph of one of Allistair’s stitched paintings, the image has been digitally printed on to the Welsh wool fabric using the latest digital printing technology.

The Cambrian Mountains Wool International Design Challenge 2015 is an initiative of the Cambrian Mountain Farmers CIC, supported by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. The Challenge and the subsequent touring exhibition was created to raise awareness about the unique, natural and sustainable benefits offered by Welsh wool for the creative and consumer industries.

In July 2015 Allistair was honoured to meet HRH Prince Charles at the Private View of the exhibition at Nanteos Mansion in Aberystwyth, Wales. HRH Prince Charles took a special interest in Allistair’s contribution to the Challenge; amazed that the image on the wool was a digital print of a photograph and that the stitches had not actually been hand-stitched… they looked too real.

Made by Hand Wales: The Contemporary Craft Fair is the last stop on the Cambrian Mountains Wooll International Design Challenge 2015 UK tour. Previous stops have included the Hay Festival in May and an exhibition at the London Welsh Centre during the London Design Festival 2015.

From 27th November 2015 till the 9th January 2016 all the artworks created for the Challenge will be on display at the Welsh National Wool Museum in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
