Chris Groombridge – Sculptor

Upon completion of a design degree at Hertfordshire College of Art & Design in 1991, I followed a profession as a scenic sculptor in the world of theatre, film and tv; progressing more recently  into structured commissions for retail design, events and architecture.
My fellowship at the trust, with its support and facility, has allowed me to nurture my own creative development in terms of sculptural practice.

I am currently exploring a playful comparison of facial forms with those of a landscape, working with the textures and contours that are inherent in both.

The work I produce is largely driven by aesthetics; spatial relationships, texture, style and scale are integral from the outset, as is the mood. I would like my work to engage the feel of a solitary hand or the senses of a community, through the celebration and beauty of a hand-hewn form.

Recent works include:

Jungle City, Edinburgh. Sole sculptor for Scotland’s largest outdoor art event of 2011

Elephant Parade, London. Charity auction

Millie & Finlay, commissioned full size child portraits in Bronze.

Full size horse, Cheltenham Race Centenery charity event.

Continuing commercial commissions.

I am open to commissions in a variety of materials from hand size to very large.
