landscape-of-churchill Chris GroombridgeForge Fellow and sculptor, Chris Groombridge, undertook two afternoon workshop sessions with two year five classes at Springmead School in Welwyn Garden City during October.
The sessions were based around the pupils sculpting a miniature head of Zeus in a classical style, with guidance from Chris for techniques and approach.

After an initial demonstration by Chris who modelled a head in plastiscine, the young people were then instructed to create their own interpretations from pictorial reference.  Chris gave practical advice  on choice of tools, stylistic language, technique and proportion, and the young people set about six weeks of creating their own classical masterpiece.

Results from the workshops can be seen on a blog on Springmead School website: http://www.springmead.herts.sch.uk/
