Claire Louise Davies

I am a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, photography and drawing. My practice is intuitive and material-led, with a particular interest in the human form, memory, time and the instinct to collect.

I am drawn to simple, organic forms and the way they can suggest something familiar without being easily defined. Through repetition, accumulation and arrangement, I create collections of forms that can appear bodily, geological or imagined. I am interested in the associations these forms create and the memories or feelings they might evoke.

Materials and their inherent qualities are an important part of my process. I work with natural and subdued tones, allowing texture, surface and form to become central to the work. I often begin without a fixed outcome, allowing the materials and the process of making to guide the work as it develops.

Liminal spaces and the relationship between time and place also influence my practice. I am interested in those moments that sit between the familiar and the unknown, and in creating work that leaves space for the viewer to bring their own associations and interpretations.
