Our new fellow at the Forge, Dave Nelson, has had two of his works selected for the prestigious ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries London. The Discerning Eye is a show for smaller works, where 6 individual art lovers (2 critics, 2 artists and 2 collectors) curate their own works, making 6 smaller shows within the larger exhibition. This year the judges included Chris Orr RA and the actress Celia Imrie. This year is the 25th anniversary of the show.
Dave commented “I am really pleased to have had two works selected. These pieces are the culmination of my Galleries series, paintings of famous artistic landmarks, but with a humorous element in the foreground. The series has run to 14 works, and the 2 selected were the final 2 I made – one of the Prom queue at the Royal Albert Hall, and the second of Tate St. Ives with surfers on the beach in the foreground.”
The ING Discerning Eye opens at the Mall Galleries in London on Thursday 17th November, and runs until Sunday 27th November. It features 440 works by 289 artists, all for sale and all under 50cm x 50cm. Entrance is free.
You can meet Dave, see more of his work, and more from the Galleries series, at the Forge Open Studios Christmas Sale, one day only this Sunday 20thNovember 11am-4pm.
