Scientist: Anna Arutyunyan – Pint of Science UK Show 09: The Immune System: Friend or Foe? & Maria Merridan with her mixed and digital media work ‘Coexistence’. Drawings and prints of the foetus, placenta, DNA and immune cells have been digitally layered and combined with recognisable symbols of communication. The illustration is a developmental piece; exploring how mother and foetus coexist, the intercellular communication that takes place in the 1st Trimester and the delicate balance of ensuring the foetus is sufficiently nourished to thrive.
