My week with the YMCA fashionistas

From having taught fashion previously at a college, I knew before the week long mentoring workshop started I’d have a tough task on my hands, especially when mentoring three students who’ve no previous experience with fashion, or using a sewing machine, but I couldn’t have been more wrong if I tried.

Mentoring Luke, Adam and Ishod was such a rewarding experience, I felt a great sense of achievement that I could use my knowledge and techniques to teach them to sketch their ideas, pattern cut, sew and construct their garments.

All three of them showed great compassion and the willingness to learn, listen and be creative as their minds allowed them to be, I thoroughly enjoyed working with them and I hope they also enjoyed their time here with me at the workshop. They should be very proud of themselves with the dresses they have designed and constructed.

I cannot wait to see their creations on the catwalk in London on 23rd October 2015, at the Youth Matters Awards 2015.
