Maria Merridan

Artist, Printmaker and Illustrator

Maria graduated from Kent Institute of Art and Design in 1992 after gaining a BA Hons Degree in Communication Media. She recently completed the Advanced Certificate in Printmaking at Curwen Study Press, Cambridge.

Her fine art works are often experimental, mixed-media pieces. Frequently combining elements of drawing and collage with traditional and non-traditional print processes. Surfaces tend to be built up gradually creating multi-layered artworks. Recurring themes of migration, meteorology, maps, astronomy, natural history and science can be observed, revealing an underlying desire to make connections, explain events and provide answers.

Maria lives and works as an artist near the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border, delivering print workshops and lecturing Art and Design at a local college. She also produces contemporary, hand-made cards and other original printed paper-based goods under the name ‘Coded Storm’.
