Sarah Bellisario

I am an illustrator and writer, currently producing fine art illustration for Children’s books and decorative non-fiction.

I am drawn to colour and revel in fine line and detail, taking particular inspiration from Japanese art, as well as patterns and motifs from different cultures.

I am interested in the cultural heritage of fairy tales and traditional storytelling which I can draw on to create my own contemporary tales and illustrations.

It is important to me to create work with a sense of spontaneity and I enjoy creating dozens of colourful ink backgrounds before I choose which ones to work into. Putting together my images with a mix of different media and a lot of imagination.

I love putting quirky and whimsical elements in to my art and often work with a theme, previous ones include Victorian Circus, Geishas, Robots and Strange beasts and Old Fashioned Erotic.

I exhibit and sell my work, and produce work on commission.

I also teach illustration and picture book workshops in schools, am currently working on new books and also producing freelance work in editorial illustration.
