Print and Stitch Workshop at The Forge Digswell – impressive outcomes
I was so chuffed with the outcomes produced by the students attending this weekends Print and Stitch workshop.
Many hadn’t touched their sewing machines in a fair few years so we looked at some introductory skills to get the best out of their machines, including making use of their Free Sewing Foot.
Day 1 was the print session and we focused on using found objects to produce lots of small scale experimental prints on various paper surfaces. The students especially loved working with the finer tissues. The emphasis was on exploring and making lots of small samples that could be collaged on day 2
Day 2 was a much more sedate day involving some initial thinking and planning followed by collage and assemblage using machine stitch. Using collage is a skill in itself and we looked at tricks and methods to assemble and juxtapose colours, textures and layers together.
The outcomes produced at the end of the 2 days were lovely and the students had especially been drawn to using some gorgeous colour combinations with the printing inks and threads. I’m looking forward to running another session like this in the future.
