Rebecca Newman-Smith

I studied Textile Design at University and specialised in woven textiles. Following this I trained as a teacher and eventually set up Art Explorers which provides after school and holiday art clubs across Hertfordshire.  I love working with children and find their innate creativity a constant source of inspiration. As my own children began to grow older, I started to carve out some time to rekindle my own creativity.  Beginning with painting courses and then moving onto printmaking I have been exploring ever since.

Printmaking has such a wide scope it is such an exciting area to work in.  I am sometimes overwhelmed by the possibilities but never lacking in ideas! It allows me to bring in elements of textile design and painting, giving me plenty of opportunities to indulge in my love of colour and pattern.  The real excitement of printmaking comes when something unexpected happens.  I like to keep an open mind when I am working and let the process lead me.
