Review of ceramics workshop and activities

Written by Digswell Arts

On May 30, 2019

Digswell Arts Trust has now completed a review of its current ceramics workshop resource use and activities including the classes it has been hosting. The review brought together a panel of people with different perspectives, notably including those with external expertise. The panel have reported to the Board which is responsible for the final decisions made. All relevant aspects were reviewed from the consultation through to suggestions received. We are grateful for all those that contributed to the consultation.

After an extremely thorough consideration of the issues of continuing to host classes in their present form at this time, and in the light of the scope of the work of the Trust, reluctantly a decision has been made to cease hosting the ceramics classes in their current format. Key factors included the current changes of Fellows (studio artists) and Trustees, the complexity of the provision and oversight required of this resource area.

Instead the Trust will be continuing to support new ceramics Fellows, looking at hosting other artist-led workshops, build on its outreach into schools and other groups, as well as developing its activities for 2020 Hertfordshire Year of Culture. Artist-led classes in other areas will be continuing. As part of this process, a decision has been made to develop a Members Group for ceramics users at intermediate and advanced levels, the details of this are not currently available, but we hope will be available in due course.

We are grateful to all those who have contributed to this process.

Judy Glasman, Chair of Digswell Arts Trust 18.6.2019
