Digswell Arts Ceramic Fellow Ruta Bartkeviciute is taking part in the 22nd Art in Clay Pottery and Ceramics Festival in Farnham over the weekend of the 17th and 18th November 2018.
Fresh from showing her work at Art in Clay in Hatfield during the summer of 2018, Ruta has been invited to show at their winter event. Art in Clay Farnham, set within The Maltings, is an indoor event held in the lead up to Christmas and is an ideal fair to pick up unique hand made artworks made in clay.
Earlier this year Ruta was crowned one of the winners of the 2018 Liberty Open Call, which coincided with the launch of the 4th edition of London Craft Week that ran from the 9th – 13th May. Ruta’s vibrantly colourful ceramic pieces proved not only to be popular with the Liberty judges but also the voting public. Ruta was featured in an article with the Evening Standard, reviewing the London Craft Week event, which can be read here: https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/design/london-craft-week-2018-highlights-a3841981.html
Ruta has recently been interviewed by Londoniete magazine, the International Lithuanian Lifestyle Magazine, appearing on the cover and inside their Autumn 2018 issue, as seen below, and profiled in Zmones UK magazine, featuring in a fashion photo shoot and talking about her work.
Ruta Bartkeviciute studied at Vilnius Academy of Art and gained a Master’s degree in 2013. Ruta’s work is inspired by ancient Baltic symbols, particularly the tree of life and imagery found within nature. Her illustrative surface patterns are given a contemporary feel owing to a joyful mix of a distinctive colour palette and style, inspired by subtle references in Lithuanian folk art. Each ceramic piece explores themes ranging from nature, harmony, love and happiness. When viewed, Ruta’s ceramic work creates a permanent feeling of spring and optimism.
