John W Mills is an internationally acclaimed sculptor who for over 50 years lived in Hinxworth. From February until April 2019, there will be a retrospective of his work. John Mills was a renowned teacher who studied at both the Royal College of Art (1956 – 1960) and at the Hammersmith School of Art (1947 – 1954). From 1962 until 1966, he resided at the Digswell Arts Trust. In 1982, he was chosen as a Fellow for the prestigious Royal British Society of Sculptors. In 1983, he received an award, the Otto Beit Medal, for a beautiful sculpture called the ‘Curved Neck Grace’. In 1986 and once again in 1997, he was elected president of the Royal Society of Arts. He also, in 1993, was made once again a Fellow of this well-known society.
