We are looking for people interested in working as Trustees to take on a role in running our lively studio communities of artists in buildings currently based in Welwyn and Letchworth. You will have the benefit of joining a longstanding charity in which Trustees make an active contribution to supporting artists in the emergent stages of their careers. Trustees regularly meet the artists and get involved in Digswell Arts Trust arts projects.

All Trustees have responsibilities as set out by the Charity Commission for pursuing the charitable objects of the Trust and for its continued financial security, as well as a specialist responsibility that usually derives from your track record in employment or volunteering.

We are currently looking for Trustees with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

• Health and Safety / Buildings
• Governance and meeting Charity Commission requirements
• Involvement in Letchworth Garden City
• Fellows (artists) welfare and development

Experience that you will bring

• Experience or understanding of charitable organisations
• An understanding of why it is important to support artists’ careers
• An interest, not necessarily knowledge, in the visual arts and culture
• Specific experience in administration, charity governance, health and safety
• Some local knowledge of Hertfordshire

Trustees are expected to attend 3 – 4 Boards per year which are currently held at either the Fenners building in Letchworth or at the Forge in Welwyn. Trustees work in a voluntary capacity.

Trustees would be expected to contribute an estimated 10 working days per year in meetings and follow up activities, depending on responsibilities.

Trustees are expected to support the Fellows (artists) and the Open Studios events.

About the Trust

The Trust is a charity set up to support artists during their career development, through the provision of studio spaces and other support. There are currently two studio buildings, in Letchworth at Fenners and Welwyn at the Forge. Artists / makers come from a variety of backgrounds and are working in a variety of media, regularly showing their work and taking part in Open Studios.
