The Big Weave

On Saturday the 11th November Digswell artists invited the public to get involved in the making of a large scale woven artwork installation at The Fenners Building, In Letchworth.

The artwork built up over the day with many members of the local community dropping by to take part by freestyle drawing with threads. The idea behind the artwork was inspired by the fabric of Letchworth itself, with research photographs taken in and around the Fenners Building.
‘The Big Weave’ event was planned as part of the national ‘Big draw festival’ where events to encourage participation in the arts take place across the country, more information about this can be found at thebigdraw.org.
The artwork will now be finalised by woven textile designer Amy Wilson who is a fellow of Digswell Arts and will hopefully be on display in the town over the festive period, accompanied by a series of photographs taken before, during and after the event recording the development of the project.
