Show by Digswell Fellow Katherine Roberts & Sound Artist Sian Wilson

Broadway Gallery and cafe opening times – Wednesday – Saturday 10.00am to 5.00pm, and on Sunday from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

A collaboration between multi-disciplinary artist Katherine Roberts and sound artist Sian Wilson exploring themes of birth and transformation. Roberts was inspired by biblical verses relating to spiritual growth that often associate the experience with dramatic earthquakes, winds and storms at sea. A poem emerged from combining biblical ideas with research into quantum physics, life in volcanic regions, caves and deep sea rifts. Both artists have used the poem to inspire their work for this show.

“In that terrible trembling
A swarm was born
It danced
its own rhythm,
from the depths of the earth,
to the wilds of the sea”
(Katherine Roberts – 2019)

The show includes a site specific drawing and mixed media sculptural forms reminiscent of corals, bacteria, embryo’s, eggs, fossils and invertebrates by Roberts. Wilson’s work is created using Foley and layering techniques to create a strange and familiar soundscape.
