We are delighted to share the recent work of Digswell Fellow Veronika Peat, who exhibited as part of the Slade Degree Show in June 2025. Her practice spans printmaking, film, and installation, exploring themes of memory, history, and cultural intersections.

This is my Happiness. This is Who I am. (2025)

One of the centrepieces of Veronika’s presentation was her two-channel video installation This is my Happiness. This is Who I am. Created over the course of a year, the work documents her encounter with a Mexican singer and her British-Indian husband, as well as their families. Blending observation with personal narrative, Veronika interweaves her own reflections, memories, and family events into the story, creating a layered portrait of cross-cultural life and relationships.

Seryozha, Come Home

Alongside the video installation, Veronika exhibited her printmaking project Seryozha, Come Home. This body of work re-imagines the experience of Soviet filmmaker Sergey Eisenstein during his time in Mexico, when he was filming ¡Que Viva México! (1932). The sequence of prints and drawings reflects on Eisenstein’s forced return to Moscow, capturing a sense of displacement, interruption, and the imaginative possibilities of unfinished histories.

Installation Views

The exhibition featured a series of large-scale screenprints, drawings, and projections, creating an immersive environment that invited viewers to navigate between narratives of personal memory and historical reconstruction. The visual language of Veronika’s work—layered, textured, and gestural—brings together archival references and lived experiences, offering a meditation on belonging, exile, and cultural identity.

Digswell Connection

As a Fellow at Digswell Arts, Veronika continues to develop her interdisciplinary practice, working between mediums and across cultures. Her presence at the Slade Degree Show marks an important milestone in her artistic journey, and we are proud to celebrate her achievements within our creative community.
