Digswell Alumni, Connie Flynn was delighted to hear one of her photographs have been shortlisted for the National Historic Ships photography competition. The photograph taken by Connie, is of three Wherries in a Norfolk Broads setting.

Connie writes:

“These stunning majestic boats are unique to the Norfolk Broads They were originally trading vessels but some were later adapted for use as pleasure cruisers. In the past, hundreds of wherries were used to transport goods throughout the Broads; now, sadly, there are only eight wherries in existence. As well as crewing, I was a member of the hardworking and devoted maintenance team, our work involved many hours sanding and varnishing; I also used my skills to paint text on life-rings, as well as restoring Wherry Hathor’s mast and the Jenny Morgan masthead.

Much of my time crewing involved juggling a variety of roles and I would often record my experiences on the water by taking photographs. It was fantastic news when one of these photographs was shortlisted for the National Historic Ships photography competition.‘’
