Based in the heart of Digswell right on the site of the old forge you will find a thriving community of artists called Digswell Arts. In celebration of its 60th Anniversary Showcase, Digswell Arts is opening the doors of its community to the general public. This amazing, creative and one of a kind event will include a display of work by studio artists as well as printmakers.
Henry Morris who was a revolutionary educationist as well as a great enthusiast for the arts who had been appointed to the Ministry of Town and Country Planning as an advisor on all the cultural as well as leisure arrangements in the British New Towns which had recently been designated.
It was the passionate Henry Morris who founded the Digswell Arts Trust in 1957 and on May 29th, 1959 the Digswell Arts Trust was inaugurated by Lady Mountbatten. It was Henry Morris´s passionate belief that art was for the people, he professed the strong belief that artists were a crucial component of the well-being of society. It was Henry Morris who persuaded the Government to found a Trust for professional artists in Welwyn Garden City.
The 60th Anniversary Open Studios will take place on May 6th through 7th from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm at The Forge, Digswell, AL60BU. This two-day event is meant to be an amazing visual celebration of the creative process which will offer all of its visitors the opportunity not only to meet but also speak to the artists as well as explore their private studios and purchase any work that is to their liking. Being as every artist has their own unique approach to their practice and exhibit widely, this is an event that you will not want to miss.
